The History of the Ford Mustang at Kearny Pearson Ford

It’s hard to think of a sports car more iconic in American history than the Ford Mustang. For decades, the Ford Mustang has been an essential cog in the Ford lineup, as well as a vehicle that defined a whole class of cars and continues to be influential in the automotive world to this day. Here at Kearny Pearson Ford, we are a friendly Ford dealership serving the entire southern California region with both pre-owned and new Ford cars. For years, the Ford Mustang has been one of the most popular models at our dealership and now, the 2017 Ford Mustang is beginning to make its impact on the automotive industry felt.

The history of the Ford Mustang can be traced back to 1964, when Ford Motor Company created prototype vehicles known as the Ford Mustang 1964½ models. The design of the car was created by executive stylist John Najjar, who was a fan of the World War II P-51 Mustang fighter plane. The car was introduced to the world at the 1964 World’s Fair, and from there, it became a massive success thanks to its sporty drive and affordable price. The Ford Mustang grew in size and weight each model year until 1974, when it returned to its original size for its second generation. For its third generation, starting in 1979, the Ford Mustang had two different front end styles. Then, in 1994, the Ford Mustang underwent another major redesign, and for the first time, it had both hatchback and coupe body styles. Throughout the years, the Ford Mustang has also been known for its racing prominence, having competed in drag racing, stock car racing, and sports car racing.

Here at our San Diego, CA Ford dealership, we now have the 2017 Ford Mustang in stock. This new model of the Ford Mustang retains all the much-loved attributes of the historic models while pushing the car into the future. The vehicle is available as both a coupe and a soft-top convertible and it comes in five different trim levels. The base engine is a 3.7-liter V6 engine that cranks out 300 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque. The EcoBoost and EcoBoost Premium trims up the ante to a 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine good for 310 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque. At the top of the line is the massive 5.0-liter V8 that generates 435 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque. On the interior, the 2017 Ford Mustang boasts cutting-edge features like the Sync3 infotainment system, heated and ventilated front seats, blind spot monitoring, cross-traffic alert, Recaro sport seats, and an eight-inch touchscreen.
