2016 Ford Explorer Details

The 2016 Ford Explorer is a three-row SUV available in five trim levels: base, XLT, Limited, Sport, and Platinum. You’ll get one of three different engines, depending on which trim you choose. Standard on the base, XLT, and Limited trim levels is a 3.5-liter V6 engine capable of producing up to 290 hp and 255 lb.-ft. of torque. Spot and Platinum trims are powered by a turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 that makes a whopping 365 hp and 350 lb.-ft. of torque. Finally, the base, XLT, and Limited trims also have the option of a turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder that produces 270 hp and 300 lb.-ft. of torque. It’s perfect for drivers looking to maximize fuel efficiency without sacrificing too much power.

All engines are paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. Rear wheel drive is standard on the base, XLT, and Limited trims, though all-wheel drive is also available for these trims and standard on the Sport and Platinum.
